KAZAN, Russia – Former UMBC standout Mohamed Hussein (Cairo, Egypt/Victory College) continues to make a name for himself, earning a spot in this afternoon's 200m individual medley semifinals at the 16th FINA World Championships in Kazan, Russia. The semifinals are set for Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. ET with live action available at swimswam.com.
Hussein dropped 2.5 seconds off his personal best time in Wednesday morning's preliminaries, touching the wall at 2:00.22 for an Egyptian National Record to solidify a spot in the semifinals and qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil with a FINA A cut time. The FINA's 200m individual medley finals take place on Thursday, Aug. 6.
