Danbury, Conn.-- Sophomore Gregor Sporlein (Bamberg, Germany/Clavius Gymnasium) and senior Ryan Green (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) won ECAC Swimmer and Diver of the Week, as announced by the ECAC on Wednesday. The duo also took home CCSA Swimmer and Diver of the Week honors yesterday for their performances against East Carolina this past weekend.
Gregor earns the award following another solid performance against East Carolina this past Saturday. Sporlein took home two victories in the 50 and 100 free. He won the 50 free in a time of 21.46, and won the 100 free in 46.48. Gregor also swam the final leg of the 400 free relay team that almost came from behind to defeat ECU, who won the meet with the relay win.
Ryan had another stellar performance in his final meet before the UMBC faithful. Green posted wins in the 1 meter dive (306.30) and the 3 meter dive (299.47) to win by six and ten points respectively.
The Retrievers will return to the pool in the CCSA Championships from Athens, Ga. on Feb.18-21. The meet will be held by the University of Georgia, as the Retrievers will look to improve on their second place finish from a year ago.
