CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The UMBC swimming and diving programs took three out of the four weekly honors as senior Mohamed Hussein (Cairo, Egypt/Victory College) was named Male Swimmer of the week while senior Andrew Eckhoff (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) and freshman Corinna Darelius (Rye, N.Y./Rye) swept the diving awards, the conference office announced on Tuesday afternoon.
The Retrievers have now earned multiple honors in each of the first two weeks of the season, and five total, as Eckhoff was named Most Outstanding Male Diver and Pierre De Waal (Pretoria, South Africa/Tuks Sport/Cleveland State) as was tabbed as the Male Swimmer of the Week last Tuesday.
Eckhoff repeated this week, and earned his 11th career conference award, due to another win in the 3-meter diving competition, this time claiming top honors against Navy last Friday, helping the Retrievers defeat the Midshipmen for the first time since 2004. The senior scored 295.12 points in the event while placing second in the 1-meter competition with a score of 275.10.

For Hussein, this is his first weekly award of the season, but third of his career, after garnering the honor twice during the 2011-12 season. The senior won three individual events against the Mids and has now won six in just two meets this season. He opened his day by winning the 200 free (1:41.60) and followed it with wins in the 100 fly (51.11) and 200 IM (1:52.81) before anchoring the 400 free relay team to the meet-clinching win.
Darelius earns her first career America East honor after sweeping the diving events with season-high scores for the Retrievers against Navy. The rookie scored a 234.90 en route to winning the 1-meter event and then followed it up by scoring 229.43 points in taking the 1-meter competition.
UMBC returns to the pool this weekend when the squads head down to the Nation's Capital to take on George Washington on Saturday, Oct. 27. The Retrievers and Colonials are set to begin competition at 1 p.m. at the Charles E. Smith Center Pool.
