CAMBRIDGE, MASS. – The UMBC men's swimming and diving team swept the America East awards this week as senior Andrew Eckhoff (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) was named Diver of the Week and freshman Lauri Kaei (Harjumaa, Estonia/Tallin Secondary Science) was named Swimmer of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday afternoon.

This is the third time in four weeks, and second consecutive week, that Eckhoff has been given this honor.  In the latest meet, Eckhoff broke UMBC's school record in the 3-mtr competition receiving a 354.30 in an unscored exhibition against Towson on Saturday.  Eckhoff also won the 1-mtr competition, sweeping the diving events for the first time this season.

This is the first honor in the college career for Kaei who has already picked up four individual and three relays wins in his brief career.  Over the weekend against George Washington, Kaei  went four for four, winning the 100 and 200-yard freestyles and also helping the 200 medley and 400 free relays take home wins.

Kaei's honor marks the third time in four weeks that the Retrievers have had the Swimmer of the Week among their ranks.  Sophomore Johan Rohtla (Tallin, Estonia/Tallin Secondary Science) earned the year's first honor while junior Pierre De Waal (Pretoria, South Africa/Tuks Sport/Cleveland State) gained the honor in the second week of the season.

Overall the men's and women's teams have picked up a total of seven awards through the season's first four weeks.

The Retrievers now have the week off from competition before heading down to College Park, Md. to take on in-state rival Maryland on Nov. 12.
