CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—Four members of the UMBC Swimming and Diving team, seniors Keilan Freeman (Calgary, Alberta, Canada/Argyll Centre) and Phillip Novotny (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Warde) and sophomores Andrew Eckhoff(Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) and Tara Morrissette(Somersworth, N.H./Saint Thomas Aquinas), have been named to the 2011 America East Swimming and Diving All-Academic Team. For Freeman, this is third straight year he has been honored. In 2010, he was named to the CoSida Academic All-America At-Large Second Team in addition to the conference honors. Freeman was part of the 800-yard freestyle relay team that broke the UMBC, America East Championship and Germantown Indoor Swim Center record and earned gold at the America East Championships. He was also part of the 200 medley relay that earned silver and the 200- and 400-yard free relays that took home bronze. Individually, he finished fourth in the 200 free, seventh in the 100 free and 14th in the 400 IM. Freeman has a cumulative GPA of 3.98 in mechanical engineering.

Novotny, a repeat honoree on the All-Academic squad, placed fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke, eighth in the 100 breast and 15th in the 400 IM at the 2011 conference meet. The senior has a cumulative GPA of 3.57 in mechanical engineering. Eckhoff earned silver in both the 1- and 3-meter diving at the 2011 America East Championships. The sophomore has a cumulative GPA of 3.54 in economics. Morrissette, the 2010 America East Most Outstanding Female Rookie, earned silver in the women's 200-yard butterfly and bronze in the 200- and 400-yard individual medley. The sophomore has a cumulative GPA of 3.78 in psychology. |
