Six Named to America East All-Academic Team
March 11, 2009Six members of the UMBC men's and women's swimming and diving teams have been selected to the 2009 America East Swimming and Diving All-Academic Teams, as announced by the conference Wednesday. Senior P.J. Sterba (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson), junior Zach Vonder Haar (Gahanna, Ohio/Columbus Academy) and sophomore Keilan Freeman (Calgary, Alberta, Canada/Argyll Centre) were named to the men's side, while senior Daniele Surkovich (Ellicott City, Md./Wilde Lake) and juniors Tereza Kaplanova (Prague, Czech Republic/Gymnazium J.G. Jankovskeho) and Lindsay Sherman (Bethany, Conn./Amity) were named to the women's side. -
Make It a Dozen! UMBC Men's Swimming and Diving Wins Sixth Consecutive America East Championship, 12th Overall, Women Take Second
February 22, 2009The UMBC men's swimming and diving team has won the America East Championship for the sixth consecutive season and 12th overall conference title. The Retrievers finished with 900 points, beating Boston University 27 points, who finished 873. The women finished in second with 687 points. The Boston University women won the title for the first time in 14 years. -
Reitz Seeded First in 200 Fly; Esposito, Maccherola Break School Records as UMBC Swimming and Diving Competes in Prelims on Final Day of America East Championships
February 22, 2009Juniors Jennifer Esposito (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst/C.W. Post) and Sam Maccherola (Woolford, Md./South Carroll/Tennessee) broke school records and sophomore Brad Reitz (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) qualified first in the 200 fly as the UMBC swimming and diving teams competed in the last prelim session of the America East Championships Sunday at Boston University. -
Bronson Breaks 200 Free Record as UMBC Men's Swimming and Diving Continues to Lead America East Championships
February 21, 2009Senior Justin Bronson (Oshawa, Ontario, Canada/Msgr. Paul Dwyer) broke the UMBC record in the 200 free and earned a gold medal in a time of 1:37.23 as the UMBC swimming and diving teams swam in the third day of the America East Championships. The men's team is in first place with 636 points, 20 points ahead of Boston University, while the women's team is second with 440 points, 85 behind Boston University. -

February 19, 2009The UMBC men's 800 freestyle relay team of sophomore Eric Jones (Gambrills, Md./Arundel), senior Evan Roseberry (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson), sophomore Keilan Freeman (Calgary, Alberta, Canada/Argyll Centre) and senior Justin Bronson (Oshawa, Ontario, Canada/Msgr. Paul Dwyer) earned gold while setting a UMBC, America East Championship and a Boston University Aquatic and Fitness Center pool record in a time of 6:39.18, as the Retrievers got off on the right foot to defending their America East Title Thursday night. -
UMBC Swimming and Diving Opens America East Championships Thursday in Boston
February 18, 2009The UMBC men's and women's swimming and diving team travel to Boston this weekend to compete at the America East Championships, hosted by Boston University, starting Thursday. The men have won five straight America East Crowns and 11 consecutive conference titles, while the women have won two straight titles. -

January 31, 2009The UMBC men's swimming and diving team finished its dual meet schedule with a 173-123 victory at William and Mary Saturday, while the women's team dropped a 181-115 result to the Tribe. The men finish dual meet action with a 5-3-1 record, while the women fell to 4-7. -
UMBC Swimming and Diving Controls Marist Saturday on Senior Day
January 24, 2009The UMBC men's and women's swimming and diving teams won 25 out of 32 events Saturday as the men defeated Marist 162-127, while the women defeated the Red Foxes 169-120. With the wins the Retriever men moved to 4-3-1 on the season, while the women improved to 4-6. -

January 12, 2009The UMBC men's and women's swimming and diving teams traveled to sunny Florida for their annual training trip, where they won six out of eight sections of the Ocean Mile at the Fort Lauderdale Rough Water Swim in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. on Jan. 3. Franc Named UMBC Assistant Director of Aquatics
December 15, 2008UMBC head men's and women's swimming and diving coach Chad Cradock announced today that former NJIT assistant Rob Franc has joined the Retrievers as the assistant director of aquatics and head age group coach for the Retriever Aquatics Club. -

UMBC Swimming and Diving Men Complete Three-Peat, Women Reclaim Title at Patriot Invitational
November 24, 2008The UMBC men's and women's swimming and diving teams have completed competition at the 2008 George Mason Patriot Invitational with the men winning their third straight title and women regaining the title a year after being the runner-ups in 2007. The men finished with 1,177.5 points, almost 500 points ahead of second-place UNC-Wilmington (687), while the women out-paced second-place UNCW, 861.5-764. -

The men lead the competition with 314, 113 points more than second place, UNC-Wilmington. The women are second after one day, trailing first-place 258-246. -
UMBC Men's Swimming and Diving Earns Split with Towson, Maryland
November 15, 2008The UMBC men's swimming and diving team split a pair of meets with Towson and Maryland, while the women's team suffered two defeats. The men's team (3-3) defeated Towson, 168-132, but lost to the Terps, 163-134. The women's team (3-5) dropped a 226-70 decision to the Tigers and 205-89 to Maryland. -
