BALTIMORE – The UMBC men's soccer team (5-7-1) plays its final non-conference game of the season on Tuesday, Oct. 22, when nationally-ranked Navy (11-1-1) visits Retriever Soccer Park.
Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on the America East digital network.
Last Time Out: UMBC dropped a heart-breaking 2-1 overtime decision to visiting UAlbany in chilly conditions on Saturday evening at Retriever Soccer Park.
Retriever sophomore forward Alejandro Arbelaez (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) scored his third goal of the season to knot the score at 1-1 in the 55'.
Classmate Quantrell Jones (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood) was dazzling in the UMBC net, making a season-high seven saves, one shy of his career high.
Season Stats Summary: Freshman midfielder Ryan Becher (Hummelstown, Pa.) leads the team in goals (4) and points (11). Senior midfielder Colin Weyant (Perry Hall, Md./Perry Hall), who tallied the game-winning goal versus Penn last Tuesday, assisted on Arbelaez' goal and leads the squad with four assists. Freshman forward Dadi Ingason (Harfnarjodur, Iceland) (2g, 3a) and senior Tre Pulliam ((Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) (3g, 1a) have seven points apiece.
Jones has played every game so far in between the posts, registering 42 saves to go along with a 1.20 goals against average.
Scouting the Midshipmen: The 22nd-ranked Navy men's soccer team (11-1-1, 4-1-1 Patriot League) dropped its first match of the season after Lehigh scored twice in the second half to grab a 2-0 victory over the Midshipmen on Saturday night at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.
The loss also snapped Navy's 16-match unbeaten streak and Saturday was also the first time the Midshipmen were held without a goal since a 1-0 loss against James Madison on the road on October 17, 2018.
The two goals allowed marked the first time that USNA had allowed multiple goals in a game in 2019. Junior goalkeeper Ian Blamblett (0.38 gaa) has nine shutouts to his credit this season, allowing only 5 goals in all 1190 minutes of action.
Sophomore midfielder Jacob Williams leads the Mids in scoring with seven goals and three assists (17 pts.). Junior forward Nicko West is close behind with six scores and a pair of helpers (14 pts.).
Navy was 11-0 until a 1-1 overtime draw versus Army West Point on Oct. 11.
All Time Series: The Retrievers and Midshipmen will be meeting for the 31st time in the all-time series, with Navy holding a 19-7-4 lead in the series.
But the Retrievers have won the last two decisions by identical 2-0 margins. Last season, Cesare Marconi (Genoa, Italy) and Pulliam each posted a goal and a helper in the September 2-0 win in Annapolis. Pulliam scored an insurance goal in the 2017 meeting at RSP.
Up Next: The Retrievers finish the regular season with road contests at Binghamton and Vermont and a home game versus Stony Brook in America East play. UMBC faces the Bearcats in Vestal, N.Y. on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 7:00 p.m.
