Surging UMBC Men’s Soccer Takes on UAlbany on Saturday Night

Baltimore, Md.-- UMBC men's soccer begins the home stretch of the #AEMSOC season at UAlbany on Saturday night. The Retrievers are coming off a 3-1 win against George Washington on Tuesday night to keep their unbeaten streak alive six games, going 5-0-1 during that stretch. UMBC is 9-4-2, 3-2 AE on the year, in a three-way tie for second place, just one game out of first place with two to go.

Scouting the Retrievers:

-The Retrievers head into the weekend at 9-4-2, 3-2 AE on the year, just one game back of first place Stony Brook (12 pts) with 9 points, in a three-way tie for second place with Vermont and UMass Lowell. UMBC is in the midst of a six game unbeaten streak coming off a 3-1 win against George Washington on Tuesday.

-Cesare Marconi (Loano, Italy) leads the Retriever offense with five goals and four assists for 14 points. He has taken a team best 51 shots with 22 shots on goal. Matt Bailey (Stevensville, Md./Saints Peter and Paul) upped his goal total to four after scoring against the Colonials on Tuesday. He is second on the team in goals and points with nine.

-Freshman Quantrell Jones (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood) has started the last six games in net, sporting a 6-0-1 record on the year. He has given up just four goals (0.50 GAA) making 24 saves (.857 save pct) with four shutouts on the year.

Scouting the Great Danes:

-UAlbany comes into the match at 6-9, 1-4 AE on the year looking to keep their playoff hopes alive. Most recently, the Great Danes defeated #22 Cornell 1-0 on Tuesday night. Carlos Clark scored in the 96th minute to propel UAlbany to the victory.

-Nico Solabarrieta leads the team with nine goals and four assists for 22 points. Clark and Daniel Krutzen both have double-digit points with Clark scoring five times with one assist for 11 points and Krutzen adding one goal and nine assists also for 11 points.

-Danny Vitiello has played every minute in net for the Great Danes, giving up 22 goals (1.42 GAA), making 50 saves (.694 save pct) with one shutout on the year.

All-Time Series:

-This will be the 18th meeting all-time between the Retrievers and Great Danes with UMBC leading the series 8-5-4. UMBC has lost just once in the series since 2013, going 3-1-3.

-Last year, the Retrievers defeated UAlbany in Baltimore, 3-1 before falling in penalty kicks in the America East Tournament Quarterfinals. The Great Danes would go on to win the conference title.
