Baltimore, Md.—UMBC men's soccer wrapped up a successful spring season with the annual alumni game on Friday. Several members of the 2014 College Cup team were in attendance, as well as a pair of members from the 1977 NCAA Tournament team. The team will also be hosting their 6th annual golf tournament in the coming weeks.
At the alumni game, current Retrievers played against former players to a 3-3 draw. Matt Bailey (Stevensvill, Md./Saints Peter and Paul), James Gielen (Edgewater, Md./DeMatha) and Tre Pulliam (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) scored for UMBC with alumni Malcolm Harris, Joe Glos and Bill Heavner (PK) scoring for the alumni.
Also in attendance on Friday was Steve Zerhusen and Dave Spedden from the 1977 NCAA Tournament team. The '77 team was honored this past fall for the 40th anniversary of the first UMBC team to earn a trip to the NCAA Tournament. Spedden made the trip all the way from Altanta to be part of the night.
UMBC men's soccer will also host their 6th annual Golf Championship on May 11. The program is looking for foursomes to sign up to participate and are always in need of sponsors. The tournament will be held at the beautiful Woodlands Golf Course in Windsor Mill, Maryland. Your $150 player fee includes all alcohol, soft drinks, breakfast, an on-course lunch, and an after-round bar-b-que.
