Baltimore, Md.—UMBC men's soccer opens the America East Tournament as the five seed, traveling to No. 4 Albany on Saturday. The Retrievers head back to the tournament for the first time since 2015, where they lost to Vermont in the semifinals. Most recently the Retrievers fell to Stony Brook on Wednesday, 2-0 to drop to 7-6-4 on the year.

Scouting the Retrievers (7-6-4):

-UMBC enters the tournament at 7-6-4 after dropping the regular season finale, 2-0 to Stony Brook on Wednesday. The loss was just the second at home this year with the other coming against then No. 12 Western Michigan.

-Senior Gregg Hauck (Linthicum, Md./North County) leads the team the with 11 points on four goals and three assists. Sammy Kahsai (Hyattsville, Md./Northwestern) and Kyle Saunderson (Laurel, Md./Reservoir) all have four goals this year, as ten different Retrievers have found the net in 2017.

-Freshman Ciaran O'Loughlin (Birkenhead, England) has started in every match for the Retrievers this year, stopping 59 shots (.728 save percentage), giving up 22 goals for a goals against average of 1.31.

Scouting the Great Danes (12-4-1):

-Albany is coming off a 2-0 victory against Binghamton in the regular season finale on Wednesday. Nico Solabarrieta scored both goals to move the Great Danes to 12-4-1 on the year.

-Solabarrieta and Afonso Pinheiro lead the team with seven goals each, with Solabarrieta adding six assists for a team best 20 points. Pinheiro has dished out four assists to bring his point total to 18. Daniel Krutzen is the only other player with double digit points, with 12 points on three goals and six assists.

-Danny Vitiello has seen the majority of action in net for the Great Danes. He has given up just five goals (0.48 GAA) making 38 saves (.884 save percentage) with seven shutouts on the year.

All-Time Series:

-UMBC and Albany will be meeting for the 17th time in the all-time series with the Retrievers leading the series 8-5-3. Earlier this year, the Retrievers defeated the Great Danes 3-1 in Baltimore, extending their home unbeaten streak to 7-0-2.

-The two have played just one conference tournament game against each other, with UMBC coming away with a 2-1 2ot victory in 2013.

Earlier This Year vs. Albany:

-The Retrievers and Great Danes met in Baltimore back on October 14 on homecoming. Sammy Kahsai put home a penalty kick in the 30th minute to give UMBC a 1-0 lead before James Gielen (Edgewater, Md./DeMatha) slotted home a shot early in the second half to make it 2-0.

-After an Albany goal by Afonso Pinheiro, sophomore Tre Pulliam (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) netted his second of the year in the 83rd minute to seal the win.

UMBC in the America East Tournament:

-The Retrievers will participate in their 12th in 15 league seasons.

-UMBC is 10-6-3 in 19 America East playoff matches… The Retrievers won championships in 2010 (No. 2 seed), 2012 (No. 2 seed), 2013 (No. 1 seed) and 2014 (No. 1 seed).
