Men's Soccer Returns Home to take on West Virginia on Wednesday Night

UMBC Game Notes

Baltimore, Md.-- UMBC men's soccer returns home to host West Virginia (3-0-2) on Wednesday. The Retrievers return home after two road games, most recently knocking off Monmouth in overtime, 2-1 on Saturday to move to 3-1-0 on the year. Senior Gregg Hauck (Linthicum, Md./North County) scored the game winner just two minutes into overtime, after classmate Cormac Noel (Todmorden, England) got the equalizer in the second half. 


-World Food Truck Wednesday. B'More Greek and Mex on the Run food trucks will be parked inside Retriever Soccer Park during the game

Scouting the Retrievers (3-1-0):

-UMBC is coming off a 2-1 overtime victory at Monmouth this past Saturday, after falling behind 1-0 early in the second half. Senior Cormac Noel tied the match in the 68th minute forcing overtime. Classmate Gregg Hauck provided the heroics in the 92nd minute off a throw in to move UMBC to 3-1-0 on the year. 

-Six different Retrievers have scored goals during the 2017 season. Sophomore Colin Weyant leads the team with a goal and an assist for three points. Seniors Gregg Hauck, Cormac Noel, Sammy Kahsai and Tom Paul and junior Kyle Saunderson have also found the net for UMBC

-Freshman goalkeeper Ciaran O'Loughlin (Birkenhead, England) has started and played every minute in goal for UMBC. He has only given up six goals (1.49 GAA), making 15 saves (.714 save percentage, to go with two shutouts.

Scouting the Mountaineers (3-0-2):

-The Mountaineers are on the road again after having three home games in a row. They are undefeated after two straight draws to Monmouth and UCF to move to 3-0-2 on they year-Junior Jorge Quintanilla and senior Jad Arslan lead the team on offense. Arslan has scored four goals for a team best eight points, while Quintanilla has added a goal and four assists for six points

-The Mountaineers junior goalkeeper Stephen Banick (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington HS North) currently has 17 saves and is currently ranked 10th in the nation with a .929 save percentage. He has helped his team to four shutouts, where they currently stand 5th in the nation.

All-Time Series:

-The Retrievers and Mountaineers will be meeting for the fifth time with UMBC holding a commanding 3-0-1 record.

-UMBC and West Virginia battled to a 0-0 tie in Morgantown last September. The Retrievers were outshot 13-1 in the contest with the lone UMBC shot coming in the first half. Keeper Billy Heavner recorded four saves on the night.

Retrievers in the National Rankings:

-The Retrievers have found success on both the offensive and defensive ends this year. The team is fourth in the nation in corner kicks per game, averaging just over nine per contest. UMBC also ranks eighth in shots on goal (8.00) and tenth in shot (16.25) per game.
