Baltimore, Md.—Junior back Kyle Saunderson (Laurel, Md./Reservoir) netted the game winner in the 55th minute to lift UMBC past Bryant on Friday night. The Retrievers held the Bulldogs at bay for most of the game, as freshman keeper Ciaran O'Loughlin (Birkenhead, England) recorded his first collegiate shutout.

Saunderson took a cross off a corner kick from sophomore Colin Weyant (Perry Hall, Md./Perry Hall) and placed it past Bulldog keeper Nick Stewart. The Retrievers drew five straight corner kicks, and connected on the fifth to go up 1-0.

From there, Bryant had a couple of chances, but each time O'Loughlin was up to the task, keeping the Bulldogs off the board.

The freshman from England recorded three saves in the win. The Retrievers out-shot the Bulldogs, 10-6 and had a 12-3 advantage on corner kicks. Sophomore Tre McCalla (Toronto, Ontario) and senior Gregg Hauck (Linthicum, Md./North County) each had two shots to lead the Retrievers.

Both teams had chances in the first half, as O'Loughlin mad a big save 15 minutes in, and Hauck had a header that was saved just minutes later as the team went into the locker rooms scoreless.

UMBC returns to the pitch on Monday, Aug. 28 when they take on Howard at Retriever Soccer Park. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
