BOSTON – UMBC senior forward Darius Madison (Philadelphia, Pa./LaSalle College HS/U. Virginia), who scored game-winning goals in both Retriever victories over Labor Day weekend, was named America East Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week, the league announced today.
Madison also earned a place on College Soccer News' Team of the Week.
The UMBC newcomer finished from 14 yards out after two crisp passes, recording the game's lone goal in the 59th minute as the 17th-ranked Retrievers blanked Ohio State, 1-0, on Sept. 4.
He struck again against Oakland on Sept. 6, completing a UMBC comeback in a 2-1 victory. Madison scored unassisted from 24 yards out in the 63rd minute, less than three minutes after teammate Kennedy O'Shea (South Riding, Va.) tied the game at 1-1. He was named to the All-Tournament Team as UMBC captured The Westin/Sheraton BWI Classic and improved to 3-0-1 on the campaign.
Madison leads UMBC and America East with three goals and seven points on the season. He reached the 15-goal plateau in his collegiate career.
UMBC returns to action for their first road encounter of the season when they face Loyola (Md.) at the Ridley Athletic Complex on Saturday, Sept. 11 at 7:00 p.m.
