Boston - UMBC sophomore midfielder Gregg Hauck (Linthicum, Md./North County) was named America East Men's Soccer co-Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday. He shared the award with Stony Brook's Jason Orban.
Hauck led an offensive barrage with a goal and two assists as the Retrievers routed Central Arkansas, 5-0, to win the Hampton Inn BWI Kick-Off Classic on August 30. The 2014 America East Championships' Most Outstanding Player was selected to the opening weekend's All-Tournament Team of the Hampton Inn BWI Kick-Off Classic.
Hauck initiated two sequences which resulted in UMBC's second and third goals of the contest. Just 67 seconds after the Retrievers' third goal, Hauck back-heeled in a centering pass from junior Kennedy O'Shea (South Riding, Va.) in the 74th minute to help put the game away.
It was Hauck's first regular season goal in his career. He scored the game-tying goal in the America East semifinals versus Vermont and the game-winner versus Hartford in the title game of the league tournament.
UMBC (1-0-1) will face a pair of 2014 NCAA Tournament teams in The Westin/Sheraton BWI Classic this weekend, as Ohio State (Sept. 4) and Oakland (Sept. 6) visit Retriever Soccer Park in 7:00 contests.
