Ballo Becomes First Retriever to Earn Pair of NSCAA All-American Citations; Back Also Tabbed to All-Tourney Team

KANSAS CITY – UMBC senior back Oumar Ballo (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) was named to the NSCAA All America Third Team, it was announced on Friday, Dec. 12.

Ballo, who earned NSCAA Second Team honors last season, becomes the first student-athlete in school history to earn a pair of NSCAA All America citations.

Moreover, Ballo was selected to the 2014 Men's College Cup All-Tournament team.

Ballo, senior forward Kay Banjo (Upper Marlboro, Md./Largo) and senior midfielder Mamadou Kansaye (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) earned NSCAA First Team All East region honors. Senior back Marquez Fernandez (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) was tabbed to the All East region's Second Team.

The four seniors led UMBC to the College Cup semifinals, the furthest a Retriever team had ever advanced in NCAA postseason competition. Ballo and Kansaye were a part of three America East Conference championship squads.
