Kansas City, MO – UMBC senior midfielder Michael DiCesare (Westervillle, Ohio/St. Francis DeSales) capped his award-winning week by earning the NSCAA/Disney Soccer Player of the Week national honor.
DiCesare was also cited as the America East Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week and earned spots on teams of the week from Top Drawer Soccer and College Soccer News.
His three-goal effort versus Vermont on "Senior Night" at Retriever Soccer Park on Saturday was the first such performance by an America East player in 2014.
The two-time America East All-Academic team member scored UMBC's second, third and fourth goals in the 30th, 33rd, and 71st minutes. DiCesare scored his first goal of the night just 2:07 after entering the game.
His effort was UMBC's first three-goal performance since Pete Caringi III tallied four goals vs. Hartford in 2012. DiCesare had one previous goal - the game-winner in a 1-0 win over Stony Brook in 2013 to clinch UMBC's first regular season title in 10 years. He played in his 66th career contest versus Vermont and has made 25 starts.
Caringi was the last Retriever to earn the NSCAA honor, capturing the accolade on Sept. 1, 2013.
