Cambridge, Mass. – UMBC senior midfielder Michael DiCesare (Westervillle, Ohio/St. Francis DeSales) was selected as America East Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week, the league announced today.
DiCesare scored three goals as the Retrievers defeated Vermont, 5-1, and captured at least a share of their second consecutive America East Conference regular season title on Saturday evening.
The two-time America East All-Academic team member scored UMBC's second, third and fourth goals in the 30th, 33rd, and 71st minutes. The tallies were the first three goals of the season for the senior, competing before his parents on "Senior Night". DiCesare scored his first goal of the night just 2:07 after entering the game.
His effort was UMBC's first three-goal performance since Pete Caringi III tallied four goals vs. Hartford in 2012. DiCesare had one previous goal - the game-winner in a 1-0 win over Stony Brook in 2013 to clinch UMBC's first regular season title in 10 years. He played in his 66th career contest versus Vermont and has made 25 starts.
After wrapping up the regular season at Stony Brook on Nov. 5, top-seeded UMBC will host an America East Tournament semi-final contest on Wednesday, Nov. 12.
