The UMBC menfs soccer team resumes America East Conference competition on Saturday, Oct. 12 when they welcome the Albany Great Danes in a 2:30 match-up to highlight UMBCfs Homecoming 2013 festivities. The Retrievers (10-1-0, 1-0-0 America East) opened league play with a 2-1 victory at Hartford a week ago, then were postponed after travelling to Willam & Mary for a non-conference contest on Wednesday. Albany (2-7-2, 0-1-0) fell, 1-0, in overtime at Stony Brook on Oct. 5, but rebounded to edge Yale, 2-1, on Tuesday. Live stats and free streaming video will be available for the contest via and




Wednesdayfs match at William and Mary was postponed due to inclement weather in the area. The institutions are attempting to reschedule the match. Kadeem Dacres broke a 1-1 tie with an early second half score and the visiting, seventh-ranked Retrievers (10-1-0, 1-0-0 America East) held on for a 2-1 victory over Hartford (7-2-2, 0-1-0) in the America East opener for both squads on Saturday evening.




Entering play this weekend, UMBC is tied for fourth in the nation with 27 goals scored. Cal Poly leads the nation with 32.


SR Pete Caringi III is tied for the nationfs lead in goals scored (10) and total points (22). JR M Geaton Caltabiano is tied for third in assists (7) and tied for fifth in assists per game (0.64).


UMBC rose four spots to No. 7 in the Continental Tire/NSCAA Coachesf poll for Oct. 1, 2013 and are at the No. 8 slot as of Oct. 8. The Retrievers remained at No. 14 in College Soccer News' poll and moved down three spots in the Top Drawer Soccer poll to 11th.


UMBC is now 37-31-11 in ten America East seasons, which includes a mark of 24-9-6 (.692) in games at home in league play.


The Great Danes come into the game with an overall record of 2-7-2, and are 0-4-1 record on the road. Earlier this season the Great Danes took down No. 22 ranked Fairleigh Dickinson in a 2-1 victory.

JR F Brandon Wilson leads the Great Danes in goals with 2 and is tied for the lead in points with 4. SO F Philip Persson leads the team in assists with a pair. JR GK Tim Allen has seen most action in goal with 10 games played, and leads the Great Danes in saves with 49.

Albany snapped four-game winless streak on Tuesday night with a 2-1 win against Yale at Bob Ford Field. FR D Bernardo Mattos struck in the 6th minute, and after Yale tied the score late in the first half, UA SO F Ivan Martinez got the game-winner in the 82nd minute.


This will be the 11th meeting between the Retrievers and the Great Danes. The Retrievers lead the overall series with a record of 5-4-1, and are 4-0-1 when playing at Retriever Soccer Park. In last yearfs matchup, the Great Danes defeated the Retrievers, 2-1, in a second half comeback. It was the first time the Great Danes had defeated the Retrievers since 2008 and it was UMBCfs final loss of the 2013 campaign. Caringi has scored a goal in each of the last two contests vs. Albany, including a 2-1 victory at home in 2011.


The Retrievers face a tough Vermont squad in America East play on Wednesday, Oct. 16 in Burlington. Kick-off time is set for 3:00 p.m.
