The UMBC men's soccer team plays the first of back-to-back road games in America East Conference play when they travel to Durham, N.H. to take on the New Hampshire Wildcats on Sat., Oct. 6. Both teams dropped 2-1 decisions to open conference play one week ago. LAST TIME OUT: Local products Dave Vaeth and Joseph Glos each scored their first collegiate goals in the first half and host UMBC (5-3-3) went on to defeat Howard (0-11), 3-1, in a non-conference contest played on the turf at UMBC Stadium on Oct. 2.
INSIDE THE SERIES: The all-time series is knotted up at 4-4-3 and the Retrievers are unbeaten (2-0-2) in the last four matches vs. UNH. UMBC is 1-3-1 in Durham, and the one victory occurred in the 2009 league semifinals. After a pair of scoreless draws in 2010, UMBC defeated UMBC, 2-0, in the 2011 contest played before 2,463 and a national television audience.
A GLANCE AT THE WILDCATS: UNH (4-4-2, 0-1 AEast) also dropped its league opener, falling 2-1 to host Binghamton in overtime on Sept. 30. JR M Robert Palumbo scored his team-leading third goal of the season in the 26th minute when he blasted a shot from the top of the box into the net, leveling the score at 1-1, but the Bearcats scored in the 97' to claim victory.
