2010: Became a prime contributor on the Retriever backline in his initial season… Competed in all 20 games and started 15… The Retrievers were 10-1-4 when he drew starting assignments… Made his first collegiate start vs. La Salle on Sept. 15 and started the final 13 games of the campaign… Played 90 or more minutes in 12 of the last 13 contests… Scored his first collegiate goal at Albany on Oct. 13, scoring the first goal of the game off a scramble in the 12th minute… Skimmed in a header against another America East foe, the Hartford Hawks, for an insurance goal in a 3-0 victory on Oct. 23… Converted penalty kicks in UMBC’s post-season games vs. UNH on Nov. 13 and at William & Mary on Nov. 21.

 
 
 

 

Background: A Scottish import who can play the center and right back positions… Captained the U-18 Scotland national team… Earned three national titles, two at the U-19 level and one with his U-17 squad…Made a pair of U-19 National Cup Final Four appearances, falling to eventual winners Glasgow Rangers F.C and Celtic F.C….Competed for various clubs, but his Livingston FC side set a record with 98 goals scored in 20 games… Competed with Inverness FC under-19’s on a tour of Turkey in 2008… Also excelled in track, earning gold in the Edinburgh District in the 400 and 800 meters and in cross country… Selected UMBC over other Division I opportunities because “the location was ideal for me and UMBC looks like an [ideal] environment”… His father, Brian, and his uncle, played professional soccer in Scotland… Has two younger brothers, Michael, who is 18, and Christopher, who is 14… Enjoys shopping, movies, swimming and walking his dogs… Son of Susan and Brian Welsh… Born March 25, 1991.
