CCOLADES: Earned Third-Team All-East regional honors on the 2009 National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-Region Scholar All-America team... One of 11 student-athletes named to the 2009 America East Conference Men’s Soccer All-Academic Team.


2009: Expert defensive midfielder started all 19 games that he dressed for during his junior campaign… Recorded single assists in wins over Delaware (Sept. 4), St. Joseph’s (Sept. 6) and Albany (Oct. 24)… One of three Retrievers to log over 1,600 minutes and second in minutes played per game at 84.52.


2008: Finished second on the team with eight points on the campaign… All three of his shots on goal resulted in scores… Recorded his first collegiate goal and the Retrievers’ first marker of the season in the 21st minute vs. Saint Mary’s… Added goals vs. Adelphi and Albany… Registered the primary assist on Chris Williams’ goal in the 1-0 win over Binghamton… Contributed a helper on UMBC’s go-ahead tally at UNH.



2007:?Received substantial playing time, appearing in 19 of 20 games and starting seven... Utilized to play a defensive role and win balls in the midfield, but demonstrated slick passing skills as well... Attempted 11 shots on the season... Converted one of UMBC's five penalty kicks in the America East quarterfinal contest at Hartford, helping the Retrievers advance. 



BACKGROUND:  Majoring in history, with a minor in psychology... A two-time First-Team All-Delco Pennsylvania honoree at Strath Haven High School… A four-year varsity letterwinner, he was the team’s second-leading scorer with 13 goals and nine assists in his senior year... A two-year member of 1989 EPYSA ODP team… Played club soccer with the Nether Mustangs FC, highlighted by a run to the USYSA national final in 2003… Chose UMBC over Vermont and New Hampshire and UNC-Wilmington because he liked the coaches, the reputation of the school and the proximity to his hometown… Hobbies include music, surfing, and snowboarding… Has a sister, Breana, a recent graduate of Mount St. Mary’s University, and a younger brother Connor, who will be a freshman soccer player at the Mount this fall… Son of John and Lisa Waraksa… John Paul Waraksa was born July 7, 1989.
