The Retrievers threw everything they could at nemesis FDU, but came up short. The third-seeded Retrievers (9-6-2) lost to the second-seeded Knights, 1-0, in the Northeast Conference semi-final game. FDU will face #4 LIU for the league title on Sunday.

The game's lone goal came off the foot of Aaron Paye at the 35:41 mark, assisted by Johnny David.

UMBC outshot FDU, 17-13, and forced Knight netminder Vytautus Lenkutis to make seven saves, but were blanked for the second straight game after scoring in the first 15 games to the season.

Derek McElligott and P.J. Wakefield each posted three shots to lead UMBC and Brian Rowland made two saves in the net.

Last season, UMBC fell to FDU in the championship game, and with the loss today, fell to 0-5-1 vs. the Knights since entering the conference. The Retrievers are 29-6-3 vs. the rest of the NEC in that same span.
