BOSTON – UMBC sophomore goalkeeper Tommy Lingner (Fort Salonga, N.Y./St. Anthony's) earned America East Conference Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week honors for games ending April 6.
Lingner collected a season-high 13 saves as the Retrievers won their second consecutive game, defeating Binghamton,13-6, on Saturday. The six goals allowed were a season low by Lingner and the UMBC defense.
The 2018 All-Rookie Team member exceeded his previous season high in saves by three and triggered a perfect clearing game for UMBC, which succeeded on all 22 clearing attempts. He made nine saves in the middle two periods as the Bearcats rallied from an early 6-0 deficit, but could not trim the deficit to less than three goals.
Lingner is hoping to duplicate his April of a year ago, when he won back-to-back league Rookie of the Week honors (April 9 and 16).
UMBC (3-6, 1-2 America East) travels to New York for a Saturday evening (7:00 p.m.) match-up versus defending league UAlbany (4-6, 3-1 AE).
