BOSTON – UMBC freshman face-off specialist Brandon Galloway (Grasonville, Md./Kent Island) was named America East Conference Men's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week for games ending March 30, 2019.
He was also tabbed to the Week No. 8 USILA Team of the Week.
Galloway won 20 of 23 face-offs to give the Retrievers a huge edge in time of possession as UMBC overwhelmed Lafayette, 19-8, on March 30. He also scored his first career goal to give his squad an early 2-0 advantage. The Retriever freshman won 19 of his first 20 draws attempted late into the fourth quarter.
The Grasonville, Md. native became first UMBC player to win 20 face-offs in a game since Phil Poe garnered a program-record 28 versus Vermont in April of 2014. He also collected 16 ground balls, also the most by a Retriever since Poe scooped up 20 in the same game.
Galloway and the Retrievers return to America East competition this Saturday, April 6 when they take on Binghamton. The opening face-off is scheduled for noon at UMBC Stadium.
