BOSTON – For the second consecutive week and the third time overall in 2018, UMBC freshman goalkeeper Tommy Lingner (Fort Salonga, N.Y./St. Anthony's) was named America East Conference Rookie of the Week.
Lingner recorded eight saves and only permitted a pair of goals in UMBC's crucial 5-2 win at Binghamton on Saturday evening. He allowed a goal 75 seconds into the game, but just one more over the final 58:45 and none in the final 47:02. Four of his saves occurred in the critical stages of the fourth quarter, while UMBC was protecting a 3-2 lead.
Lingner has 24 saves and just 9 goals allowed in UMBC's two America East wins over the past two weeks.
His goals against average has dropped to 7.62, now fifth best in the nation, while his save percentage has risen to 53.5 percent, the 18th best figure through games of April 15.
UMBC (2-2 America East, 4-7 overall) has won back-to-back games and hosts Hartford on Senior Day at UMBC Stadium. Seniors will be honored before the noon face-off versus the Hawks.
