Patschorke, O'Hara Lead Retriever Effort in Narrow 8-6 Loss at Towson

Towson, Md.  – Freshman Trevor Patschorke (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) posted his first collegiate three-goal game, and UMBC (1-3) led host Towson (2-3) after three quarters, but the Tigers came away with an 8-6 victory in chilly, blustery conditions at Johnny Unitas Stadium.

Patschorke now has nine goals in his first four collegiate contests. Classmate Ben Keller (Grand Rapids, Mich.) recorded his first multiple-goal game, netted a pair, while junior A/M Jack Andrews (Arnold, Md./St. Mary's) added a pair of assists.

Patschorke scored a pair of first quarter goals as the Retrievers led, 2-1, after 15 minutes. Then, it was Keller's turn to strike as he tallied twice in the second stanza as he second score with 3:19 to play gave UMBC a brief 4-2 lead.

Towson inched to within 4-3 at the half and knotted the game at 4-all at the 9:36 mark of the third quarter, before Patschorke completed the hat-trick by tallying an extra-man goal at the 7:01 mark.

UMBC held that 5-4 lead through 45 minutes, but Towson won all six fourth-quarter draws and scored the game-tying and go-ahead goals in a 38-second span in the first five minutes of the period.

The Tigers increased the lead to 8-5 before sophomore Ryan Frawley (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) scored with 3:20 remaining. UMBC had a pair of shots in the final minute to attempt to get within a goal, but both missed the net and the Tigers ran out most of the clock to preserve the narrow victory.

In the poor playing conditions, UMBC only committed nine miscues and cleared successfully 15-of-17 times. But Towson won 15-of-18 draws and a 13-6 shot advantage in the final 15 minutes accounted for their 37-30 shot lead for the game.

UMBC freshman netminder Tommy Lingner (Fort Salonga, N.Y.) made seven saves in the contest.

Senior LSDM Billy O'Hara (Davidsonville, Md./South River) led UMBC with six ground balls and three caused turnovers on the day.

The Retrievers return home for the first time in one month when they host Marist at UMBC Stadium on Saturday, March 10. The opening draw is set for 7:00 p.m.
