Austin, Texas - UMBC sophomore defenseman Nick Griffin (Marriottsville, Md./Liberty) was tabbed to 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division I Men’s and At-Large Third Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Griffin becomes the first-ever UMBC men’s lacrosse student-athlete to earn the nation’s most-recognized academic honor.
Savannah, Ga. - UMBC senior lacrosse standouts Taylor Oliver (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary’s) and John Tornabene (Havre de Grace, Md./Archbishop Curley) were amongst eighteen student-athletes from America East institutions that were named to the conference’s 2018 Helping Hands Team Tuesday evening at the conference’s annual awards dinner.

UMBC’s men’s lacrosse contest versus consensus No. 1-ranked Albany, originally scheduled for Saturday, April 7, will be played at UMBC Stadium on Friday, April 6, at 7:00 p.m., due to an expected winter storm in the area during the afternoon and evening hours on Saturday. Emmitsburg – Host Mount St. Mary’s (1-3) broke open a close game early, scoring five first half straight goals and going on to a 16-7 victory over UMBC (1-2) in damp, chilly conditions at Waldron Family Stadium.
The UMBC men’s lacrosse team (1-1) heads about 50 miles northwest on Friday, Feb. 23, when they renew the rivalry versus Mount St. Mary’s (0-3) in Emmitsburg. The opening face-off at Waldron Family Stadium is set for 3:00 p.m. and the game will be streamed on NEC Front Row.
