Junior midfielder Pat Young (Ewing, N.J.) led the Retrievers with three goals, while junior attackman Nate Lewnes (Arnold, Md./St. Mary's) extended the nation's tenth-longest consecutive game goals streak to 18 with UMBC's first goal of the game. UMBC would be held off the board in the second quarter as Albany extended the margin to 15-2 at intermission.

Albany would outscore UMBC, 4-2, in the third quarter, before the Retrievers scored five of the six goals in the final frame. Young scored all three of his goals in the second half.
