UMBC Head Men's Lacrosse Coach Don Zimmerman has signed a two-year contract extension through the 2016 season, Director of Athletics Tim Hall announced today.
The Retriever mentor will enter his 22nd spring campaign at UMBC in 2015 and his 29th overall as a collegiate head coach. His career record stands at 228-153, a winning mark of 59.8 percent, which is amongst the top ten of all current active Division I coaches.
"Coach Zimmerman is recognized nationally as one of the brightest offensive minds and head coaches in the game," Hall said. "Our student-athletes are well-prepared every time we take the field. We fully expect to capture another America East title under Coach Zimmerman's leadership."
UMBC has reached the America East title game in each of the past two seasons, falling to a star-studded Albany squad in both 2013 and 2014. The Retrievers have won three league titles and made a total of six NCAA Tournament appearances (1998-99, 2006-09) in Coach Zimmerman's tenure. He was named America East Conference Coach of the Year by his colleagues in both 2008 and 2009 and voted the 2008 Coach of the Year in LaxPower's men's lacrosse Fan Awards.
Coach Zimmerman was inducted into the Greater Baltimore Chapter of the United States Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2002 and the Johns Hopkins University Athletic Hall of Fame in 2013.
