  • No. 18 UMBC Men's Lacrosse Hosts Fourth-Ranked North Carolina at High Noon on Saturday

    The UMBC men's lacrosse team (1-1) begins a very challenging stretch of games by taking on fourth-ranked North Carolina (4-0) at UMBC Stadium on Saturday, March 6. The noon contest will be televised live in the Baltimore metropolitan area by WMAR-TV and on a delayed basis (Sunday, March 7, 12:30 a.m.) by ESPNU. Scott Garceau and Mark Dixon have the call.   • Stockton Nets Three as Men's Lacrosse Edges Host Rutgers, 6-5

    Piscataway, N.J. Junior midfielder Bobby Stockton (Ponte Vedra, Fla./Nease) scored three goals, including the eventual game-winner, as No. 19 UMBC (1-1) edged host Rutgers, 6-5, in a nail-biter played in cold and blustery conditions at RU's Turf Field.

    The UMBC men's lacrosse team takes to the road for the first time this season, as the Retrievers (0-1) take on Rutgers (1-0) on the RU Turf Field in Piscataway, N.J. on Sunday, Feb. 28 at 3:00 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for Saturday, Feb, 27, but was moved back 24 hours because of the weather event affecting the region.

    UMBC opens its 43rd season of intercollegiate lacrosse and 29th at the NCAA Division I level on Saturday, Feb. 20 when the 11th-ranked Retrievers entertain the Delaware Fightin Blue Hens. Face-off time is set for 1:00 p.m. at UMBC Stadium.   • Retrievers, Seawolves Share Top Spot in Men's Lacrosse Preseason America East Poll; Kresse, Pierce Added as Team Captains

    UMBC and Stony Brook University, which shared the America East men's lacrosse regular-season title and met in the championship game a year ago, have been selected co-favorites to capture the 2010 crown, according to the preseason coaches poll, which was announced Tuesday. Both teams received a total of 22 points with the Retrievers, the two-time defending league champion, garnering three first-place votes, and the Seawolves receiving two. University at Albany, the 2007 champion, followed closely behind with 19 points and one first-place tally (coaches could not vote for their own team). University of Hartford was chosen fourth with 12 points, while University of Vermont followed in fifth with nine points andBinghamton University rounded out the six-team poll with six points.

    Due to an expected winter weather event this weekend, UMBC men's lacrosse scrimmage vs. Villanova University has been moved from Saturday, Feb. 6 to Thursday, Feb. 4. The scrimmage will get underway at UMBC Stadium at 4:30 p.m.
