    UMBC men’s basketball suffered an 85-61 loss to American on Tuesday night. Senior guard K.J. Jackson (Missouri City, Texas) recorded his third straight 19 point game, leading three in double figures. 15 of his 19 points came in the second half.

    UMBC men’s basketball heads to Washington, D.C. to take on American on Tuesday night in Bender Arena. The Retrievers are coming off a big 85-60 win against Drexel on Saturday afternoon. Senior guard K.J. Jackson (Missouri City, Texas) recorded his second straight 19 points game, leading four in double figures. Daniel Akin (London, England) recorded a career-high 18 points on 9-11 shooting in the win. 
  • Akin Nets Career-High 18 Points; UMBC Blows Past Drexel, 85-60 on Saturday

    UMBC men’s basketball picked up a big 85-60 win against Drexel on Saturday thanks to four Retrievers scoring in double figures. Senior K.J. Jackson (Missouri City, Texas) led the way with 19 points, tying a season-high and Daniel Akin (London, England) who scored a career-high 18 points on 9-11 shooting. 
  • UMBC Men’s Basketball Returns Home to Face Drexel on Saturday Afternoon

    UMBC men’s basketball will return to the UMBC Event Center on Saturday after a week-long road swing that saw the Retrievers drop to 4-3 on the year. Most recently the Black and Gold went 0-3 on a road trip that saw them play against national power LSU (L, 77-50) and Eastern Michigan (L, 62-45) and Nicholls State (L, 82-72) in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Junior guard Darnell Rogers (Baltimore, Md./Indian Land (SC)/New Mexico JC) was named to the Jersey Mike’s Jamaica Classic All-Tournament Team after averaging 14.0 ppg, 3.0 rpg, and 2.5 apg during the tournament.

    UMBC men’s basketball fought all the way till the end, but could not overcome a big first half from the Colonels in an 82-72 loss on Sunday night. Junior guard Darnell Rogers (Baltimore, Md./Indian Land (SC)/New Mexico JC) tied his career-high with 23 points in the loss.

    UMBC men’s basketball dropped the first game of the Jersey Mike’s Jamaica Classic, 62-45 to Eastern Michigan on Friday afternoon. The Eagles used a big second-half push to pull away from the Retrievers. Senior guard K.J. Jackson (Missouri City, Texas) led the way with seven points.
  • UMBC Men’s Basketball Heads to Montego Bay for Jersey Mike’s Jamaica Classic

    UMBC men’s basketball will look to bounce back after a 77-50 loss to LSU on Tuesday night, their first loss of the season. Junior forward Dimitrije Spasojevic (Vrsac, Serbia) led the charge with 14 points and six rebounds. Sophomore guard L.J. Owens (Annapolis, Md./Severn School/William & Mary) chipped in 10 points in the loss. The Retrievers will play two games in the Jersey Mike’s Jamaica Classic, against Eastern Michigan on Friday and Nicholls State on Sunday night.

The Retrievers will embark on a three-game, two-country road swing, starting at national power LSU on Tuesday night. UMBC is coming off a hard-fought 60-48 win against Georgian Court on Saturday.

    UMBC men’s basketball got off to their best start since the 2016-17 season thanks to a 60-48 win against Georgian Court on Saturday. The Retrievers had to fight off a pesky Lions team, and were aided by a career-high 23 points from Darnell Rogers (Baltimore, Md./Indian Land (SC)/New Mexico JC). Head coach Ryan Odom also recorded his 100th career victory on Saturday.
  • Men’s Basketball Looks to Stay Unbeaten Against Georgian Court on Saturday

    UMBC men’s basketball will look to start the year 4-0 for the first time since the 2016-17 season against Georgian Court on Saturday afternoon. The Retrievers are coming off a 79-57 victory against Division III St. Mary’s (MD) on Wednesday that saw four-player reach double figures, including 21 and a career-high 15 rebounds from Brandon Horvath (West River, Md./Southern). Head coach Ryan Odom can also make history by winning his 100th career game with a victory on Saturday.

The Retrievers are 2-0 on the year for the first time since 2016-17 where they started 4-0. Sophomore guard L.J. Owens (Annapolis, Md./Severn School/William & Mary) provided the heroics, erasing a double-digit deficit with a three with 17 seconds left to lift UMBC to victory.

Owens (Annapolis, Md./Severn School/William & Mary) provided the heroics, hitting a late-game three with 17 seconds left to lift UMBC to a big 65-61 win against Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday. Owens finished with a career-high 21 points. Junior Darnell Rogers (Baltimore, Md./Indian Land (SC)/New Mexico JC) also finished with 21 points, setting a new career-high as well.

UMBC defeated the Patriots, 134-46, shattering five different team records in the contest to move to 1-0.

Senior guard K.J. Jackson (Missouri City, Texas) was named to the Preseason All-Conference Team, as voted on by the coaches.
