The Retrievers are currently 7-11, 0-3 AE after falling 74-50 to reigning champion Vermont last weekend. Junior Brandon Horvath (West River, Md./Southern) continued his strong start to the conference season with 14 points and four rebounds, his third consecutive double-digit scoring performance.

    UMBC men’s basketball returns home to take on defending America East Champion Vermont on Saturday afternoon. The game will also serve at Alumni Day, with the 1979-80 team celebrating their 40th anniversary of their NCAA DII Round of 16 run, a team that still holds the best season win percentage at .821. The Retrievers will look to snap a two-game losing streak, most recently falling to Binghamton, 79-75 on Wednesday.

    UMBC men’s basketball got a career-high 18 points from R.J. Eytle-Rock (London, England), but the Bearcats won a back-and-forth battle, 79-75 on Wednesday. UMBC held leads late in the half, but could not hold off the Bearcats despite four Retrievers reaching double figures.

    UMBC men’s basketball returns to the court on Wednesday when they travel to New York to take on Binghamton. The Retrievers are coming off a heartbreaking 86-73 overtime loss to UMass Lowell on Saturday. Senior K.J. Jackson (Missouri City, Texas) sent the game to the extra session with his buzzer-beating three, but the River Hawks outscored UMBC 20-7 in the extra frame to defeat UMBC.

    K.J. Jackson (Missouri City, Texas) hit a turnaround three-pointer as the regulation buzzer went off to send the game to overtime, but it wasn’t enough as UMass Lowell pulled away in overtime, 86-73, to take the victory at the UMBC Event Center on Saturday afternoon.

    UMBC head men’s basketball coach Ryan Odom announced today that senior Max Curran (Hooksett, N.H.) will be away from the team for the remainder of the season due to personal matters. Curran played in nine games this year, making three starts. He averaged 3.7 points per game and 3.2 rebounds per game during the 2019-20 season.

    UMBC men’s basketball opens their 17th seasons of America East competition against UMass Lowell on Saturday afternoon at the UMBC Event Center. UMBC finished non-conference play at 7-8 after a convincing 89-57 win against Penn State York on Monday. Five Retrievers reached double figures led by junior Dimitrije Spasojevic (Vrsac, Serbia) who scored 16 on 8-10 shooting.

    UMBC men’s basketball finished the non-conference season at 7-8 after taking down Penn State York 89-57 on Monday afternoon. The Retrievers had five players reach double figures, led by Dimitrije Spasojevic (Vrsac, Serbia) with 16 points on 8-10 shooting. UMBC outscored the Nittany Lions 44-16 in the paint and 29-8 in bench points.

    UMBC men’s basketball will look to snap their two-game losing streak in their non-conference finale against Penn State York on Monday afternoon. The Retrievers are coming off a 69-53 loss to George Mason on Dec. 21 in Fairfax. Three different Retrievers reached double figures led by Dimitrije Spasojevic (Vrsac, Serbia) with 15 points adding six rebounds. Senior K.J. Jackson (Missouri City, Texas) and L.J. Owens (Annapolis, Md./Severn School/William & Mary) added 12 and 10 respectively.

Senior K.J. Jackson (Missouri City, Texas) was the only other Retriever in double figures with 10 points.

Sophomore Keondre Kennedy (Atlanta, Ga.) led the Retrievers against the Tigers with a career-high 15 points, leading a quartet of Retrievers in double figures.

The Retrievers are coming off a tough 63-60 loss to Saint Francis University on Saturday afternoon. UMBC battled back from a double-digit deficit to take the lead, but the Red Flash scored late, and a game-tying chance from L.J. Owens (Annapolis, Md./Severn School/William & Mary) just missed to drop UMBC to 5-5.

    UMBC men’s basketball erased a double-digit deficit in the second half to take the lead late, but Saint Francis held on for a 63-60 win on Saturday. Sophomore L.J. Owens (Annapolis, Md./Severn School/William & Mary) netted 17 points and had a chance at the buzzer to tie it, but his attempt rimmed out. Both teams exchanged turns with the lead over the final five minutes.

Jackson (Missouri City, Texas) led the way with 19 points, tying a season-high and Daniel Akin (London, England) who scored a career-high 18 points on 9-11 shooting. 
  • UMBC Men’s Basketball Returns Home to Face Drexel on Saturday Afternoon

    UMBC men’s basketball will return to the UMBC Event Center on Saturday after a week-long road swing that saw the Retrievers drop to 4-3 on the year. Most recently the Black and Gold went 0-3 on a road trip that saw them play against national power LSU (L, 77-50) and Eastern Michigan (L, 62-45) and Nicholls State (L, 82-72) in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Junior guard Darnell Rogers (Baltimore, Md./Indian Land (SC)/New Mexico JC) was named to the Jersey Mike’s Jamaica Classic All-Tournament Team after averaging 14.0 ppg, 3.0 rpg, and 2.5 apg during the tournament.

Owens (Annapolis, Md./Severn School/William & Mary) chipped in 10 points in the loss. The Retrievers will play two games in the Jersey Mike’s Jamaica Classic, against Eastern Michigan on Friday and Nicholls State on Sunday night.
