BOSTON – UMBC forward Will Darley (Timonium, Md./Dulaney) has been named America East Men's Basketball co-Player of the Week, the league announced today. Darley shared the league's top weekly honor with Stony Brook's Lucas Woodhouse.
Darley was also selected as College Sports Madness' America East Player of the Week.
The versatile senior led the league by averaging an America East-best 26.5 points per game in road wins at Binghamton and Maine last week. He knocked down 19 of 36 field goal attempts (52.8 percent) and drained 10 of 19 treys (52.6 percent) in the two games.
Darley tallied a team-high 22 points and added four rebounds in the 92-74 victory over Binghamton. He then poured in a season-high 31 points, one shy of his career high, to lead the Retrievers to an 83-71 victory over Maine. Darley sunk six treys (of ten) and matched a career high with 11 field goals made versus the Black Bears.
Darley is ranked second in America East play, averaging 19.8 points per game in ten league contests. He now has 123 treys in his career, ninth in school history and just surpassed 900 point plateau (905) in his career. With at least seven games remaining, Darley already has a career-best 364 points (15.8 per game) in his collegiate career.
Darley joins Jairus Lyles as weekly recipients of the league award in 2016-17. Lyles captured the honor on Nov. 21 and Dec. 26.
The Retrievers (16-7, 7-3, third place, America East) play four of their next five at home, including dates this week versus Hartford (Thurs., Feb. 9, 7:00 p.m.) and league-leader Vermont (20-5, 10-0 AE) on Sunday, Feb. 12 (1:00 p.m.).
