BALTIMORE – The UMBC men's basketball program is pleased to announce "The 2016-17 Retriever Tip-Off Event", featuring New York Times best-selling author John Feinstein as the keynote speaker.
Mr. Feinstein will be joined at a special pre-event VIP Reception by UMBC President Dr. Freeman Hrabowski, UMBC Director of Athletics Tim Hall and new Head Coach Ryan Odom.
This first-time event will be held at Bond Street Wharf in Baltimore's Inner Harbor on Tuesday, Nov. 1. The evening will feature a VIP reception, commencing at 5:30 p.m., a general reception beginning at 6:00 p.m. and dinner beginning at 7:00 p.m.
The event will include remarks from President Hrabowski and Tim Hall, as well as the keynote speaker John Feinstein. In addition, Head Coach Ryan Odom will introduce this year's men's basketball team and provide an outlook of what can be expected from the Retrievers this year and in the years to come.
Odom, recently listed as an "Interesting Mid-Major Hire" by Athlon Sports, joined UMBC this Spring from Lenoir-Rhyne University after leading the Bears to one of its winningest season's in school history and a berth to the NCAA Division II "Sweet 16".
Feinstein is the author of 35 books, including the two best-selling sports books of all-time –A Season on the Brink and A Good Walk Spoiled, both New York Times best-sellers. In addition to his books, Feinstein also works for The Washington Post, The Golf Channel, Golf Digest, Sirius XM, CBS Sports Radio and Comcast Sportsnet.
The Duke University graduate and Potomac, Md. resident has been inducted into four Halls of Fame, including the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame and The U.S. Basketball Writers' Hall of Fame.
Individual VIP tickets start at $150 and a general admission ticket is $100. Whole-table prices are also available at a discounted rate and new court-side season tickets are also available in a deluxe package.
