Men's Basketball Faces Fast-Rising Hartford in Thursday Night Road Affair

UMBC will attempt to win back-to-back games overall and back-to-back at Hartford when the Retrievers take on the host Hawks in America East action on Thursday, Jan. 20. Fans can catch all the action on Fox 1370 Sports Radio ( with Paul Mittermeier on the call, beginning with the pregame show at 6:55 p.m. Mittermeier will host the Randy Monroe UMBC Basketball Show live from Hartford on Thursday at 6:00 p.m.


RETRIEVER UPDATE: UMBC (2-16, 1-4) staged a dramatic comeback on Monday, scoring the final 11 points in the final 2:40 to defeat Boston U., 71-67, at the RAC Arena. The Retrievers hit a season-high 10 (of 21) treys in the contest and hit 11 of 12 free throws down the stretch. Junior guard Chris De La Rosa (team-high 17.3 ppg, the lone Retriever averaging in double figures) is averaging an America East-high 22.8 points per game in five league games to date.


HAWK UPDATE: America East coaches did selected Hartford near the bottom of the preseason polls, but the Hawks have won three of four league games under new head coach Dan Gallagher. They took a 20-point lead at the half and cruised by host Binghamton, 72-61 on Monday night, UH's fourth win in the last five outings. Senior guard Joe Zeglinski (14.6 ppg) had 26 vs. the Bearcats, while junior wing Morgan Sabia leads Hartford at 15.2 points per game.


Who's Up Next: UMBC heads back to the road for two additional games this week, playing at Hartford on Thursday and returning to New England for a Sunday matinee at New Hampshire.
