Vermont won for the fifth consecutive time and for the seventh straight time on the road.
UMBC was led by senior forward Darryl Proctor, who led all scorers with 24 points and he recorded his ninth double-double of the season with 10 rebounds. Freshman wing Chauncey Gilliam registered his first career double-double with 16 points and a season-high 10 rebounds.
UMBC chipped away, but the game turned when Retriever guard Jay Greene, the reigning America East Player of the Week, missed a three-point field goal that would have tied the game at 55-all. Vermont guard Maurice Joseph quickly countered with a three, restoring the Catamount advantage to 58-52 with 7:59 remaining.
Vermont junior forward Marqus Blakely scored 10 of his 13 points in the second half and Joseph also scored 13 for the Catamounts.
