Men's Basketball Opens America East Play By Hosting Vastly Improved Stony Brook Squad on Saturday Evening

RETRIEVER UPDATE: UMBC completed the 2008 portion of its non-conference schedule at 6-6. The Retrievers had one two-game winning streak and one two-game losing streak in its first dozen games. The Retrievers were 8-5 entering America East play (at Stony Brook) a year ago, but the 6-6 mark is still tied for the third-best through 12 games since the 2000-01 season. Senior forward Darryl Proctor leads UMBC with 18.5 ppg and 8.9 rpg and is coming off of a UMBC-best 29-point effort in Tuesday's 81-60 loss at Saint Louis.

SEAWOLF UPDATE: Despite a young lineup, Stony Brook has won six of its last eight games and is off to its best start in the school's Division I history. Newcomer Muhammad Al-Amin, a 6-5 junior guard,  leads a balanced attack with 12.6 points per game, including an eye-popping 27 point effort two games ago vs. St. Peter's. Freshman guard Bryan Dougher is at 12.4 points per game, but six different Seawolves have earned top scoring honors through 12 games.
