After back-to-back appearances in the America East title game and one championship in 2008, UMBC staggered to a 4-26 mark last season. As opposed to a very young team (9 prior years of collegiate experience) that took the floor last year, the Retrievers have a mature squad (18 years of experience) that takes the court in UMBC's 25th year of NCAA Division I basketball. A key member of the 2008 title squad, post Justin Fry, returns for his final year after missing the 2009-10 campaign following knee surgery. Fry, a UMBC graduate student in economics, will be joined by another pair of grad students, guard Travis King (GW) and forward Laurence Jolicoeur (Manhattan). Junior guard Chris De La Rosa made his UMBC debut last season and led the America East Conference with 5.1 assists per game. He is UMBC's leading returning scorer at 11.7 ppg.
Who's Up Next: UMBC heads into the city to play at Loyola on Wednesday, Nov. 17. That game will be televised by MASN-TV.
