UMBC Baseball Drops 4-3 Heart-breaker to Georgetown on Tuesday

Bethesda, Md.—UMBC baseball led throughout the contest, but four unanswered runs by the Hoyas sunk the Retrievers, 4-3 on Tuesday. Raven Beeman (Somerset, Pa.) recorded three hits with Jack Finn (Ellicott City, Md./Rider) driving in a run on two hits led the Retrievers.

UMBC falls to 21-30 on the year while the Hoyas improve to 20-33.

Neither side could get much going through the first three innings, but the Retrievers found the spark in the fourth. Beeman led off the inning with a double and advanced on a fly out. Colin Casey (Ipswich, Mass.) drove him in just pitches later with an RBI ground out to give UMBC a 1-0 lead.

The Retrievers added to that lead with two more in the fifth. Blaze O'Saben (Warrenton, Va.) and Andres Machado (Coral Gables, Fla.) both reached on walks, with Machado scoring on a Finn single and O'Saben coming around on a Terrence Pinkston (La Plata, Md./McDonough/Norfolk State) sacrifice fly to make it 3-0.

However, the Hoyas answered in their half of the fifth with a three-run home run to tie it, ultimately taking the lead late on a solo home run in the eighth to take it 4-3 on Tuesday.

Beeman and Finn led the way with multiple hits with Finn, Casey and Pinkston each driving in runs in the loss.

UMBC will conclude their 2019 season with a double header against Fairfield on Saturday, May 18. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. with senior day ceremonies taking place at 12:30 at Alumni Field.
