UMBC Baseball Heads to UMass Lowell for Final #AEBASE Series of the Year

Baltimore, Md.-- UMBC baseball travels to UMass Lowell needing a series win to stay alive in the chase for a spot in the America East Tournament. Two wins by the Retrievers will keep them alive, needing some help on the final weekend to get into the tournament. Last time out, the Retrievers knocked off Coppin State, 8-4 snapping a six-game losing streak.

Scouting the Retrievers:

-UMBC comes into the contest at 21-26, 6-14 AE on the year after snapping a six-game losing streak in an 8-4 win against Coppin State on Wednesday. Raven Beeman (Somerset, Pa.) and Ryan Brown (Hagerstown, Md./St. James/Charleston Southern) each had three RBI in the win.

-Terrence Pinkston (La Plata, Md./McDonough/Norfolk State) leads the team at the plate with a .329 average, collecting a team best 56 hits with a.541 slugging percentage and 27 stolen bases. AJ Wright (Cherry Hill, N.J.) has driven in a team high 43 runs with 19 doubles and six home runs.

-Stephen Schoch (Laurel, Md./Good Counsel/Appalachian State) leads the pitching staff with a 3.57 ERA in 16 appearances with three saves and 58 strikeouts. Cooper Adams (Potomac, Md./St. John's College) leads the rotation with a 6.49 ERA in seven starts and 43.0 innings pitched.

Scouting the River Hawks:

-The River Hawks come in on a two-game losing streak after falling in the final two games of their series with Hartford last weekend. UMass Lowell is 7-9 in home games this year compared to 5-24 away from LeLacheur Park.

-Oscar Marchena is batting a team best .333 on the year having played in all but one game this year. He has a team high 53 hits with 30 RBI. Ciaran Devenney, Cam Climo and Steve Passatempo each have five home runs to lead the River Hawks.

-Nick Rand leads the rotation with a 4.36 ERA going 3-6 in 13 starts this year. He has thrown a team best 74.1 innings with 65 strikeouts. Joshua Becker leads the bullpen with a 4.18 ERA with four saves.

All-Time Series:

-UMBC and UMass Lowell have met three times prior to this weekend with the River Hawks taking two of three. All-time, The River Hawks hold a slight 11-10 lead in the series that dates back to 2014. The River Hawks have won five of the last six meetings.

Stealing All the Bases:

-UMBC is on pace to reset all records in the stolen bases categories this year, records that were last broken during the team's historic 2015 season. This year the Retrievers have stolen 108 bases which ranks second in program history, just behind the 2015 team who stole 113 bags. They have attempted 126 steals, just 18 behind first place at 144 back in 2015.

-Terrence Pinkston has stolen 27 bases, just two behind first place in a single season set by Anthony Gatto and Kevin Lachance in 2015. Blaze O'Saben is not far behind with 25 thefts.

-UMBC will head to Georgetown for the final road and midweek contest of the year on Tuesday, May 14. First pitch from Shirley Povich Field is set for 7 p.m.
