Baltimore, Md.-- UMBC baseball dropped a 15-6 decision to the Blue Hens on Tuesday night at Alumni Field. Raven Beeman (Somerset, Pa.) led the way with two hits in the loss, as the Blue Hens mustered 15 hits in the contest.
UMBC drops their sixth straight to fall to 20-26 while the Blue Hens improve to 20-28.
The Retrievers got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning. Blaze O'Saben (Warrenton, Va.) reached to lead off the game and worked his way to third on a pair of steals. Terrence Pinkston (La Plata, Md./McDonough/Norfolk State) singled him in to give UMBC the early lead.
However, Delaware took control in the second scoring three runs, putting up two more in the third to take a 5-1 lead. O'Saben cut into the defcit in the third with a sacrifice fly.
Trailing 9-2, UMBC mounted a comeback with three runs in the fourth. Ryan Brown (Hagerstown, Md./St. James/Charleston Southern) singled home AJ Wright (Cherry Hill, N.J.) with Christian Torres (Miami, Fla.) scoring on a wild pitch and Jack Finn (Ellicott City, Md./Rider) singling home Raven Beeman to cut it to 9-5.
The Blue Hens would have an immediate response, putting up a four spot in the fifth and two more in the seventh to pull away. The Retrievers added a run in the eighth on a Joe Milkowski (Lackawanna, N.Y.) RBI single, but Delaware prevailed 15-6.
Beeman was the lone Retriever with two hits. O'Saben, Pinkston, Milkowski, and Finn each had an RBI in the loss.
UMBC will host Coppin State to close out the home stand tomorrow, Wednesday May 8 at 6 p.m.
