Baltimore, Md.— The Retrievers held a lead in game two, but a furious Bearcat rally pushed them past UMBC to earn the sweep on Saturday. Ryan Brown (Hagerstown, Md./St. James/Charleston Southern) blasted two home runs, one in each game to lead the Retrievers.
UMBC falls to 20-25, 6-14 AE while Binghamton improves to 20-19, 10-6 AE on the year.
Binghamton got on the board first, putting up seven runs in the second inning to break the game open. The Retrievers would respond in their half of the inning, getting a big two-run home run from Ryan Brown to cut the deficit to just five.
However, it would be all Bearcats from there, scoring four in the third and one in the fourth and fifth to take a commanding 13-3 lead. The lone Retriever run in that stretch was a Jack Finn (Ellicott City, Md./Rider) RBI double in the fifth. AJ Wright (Cherry Hill, N.J.) would single in a run in the ninth, but the rally ended with UMBC falling 13-4 in game one.
UMBC jumped on the Bearcats early. AJ Wright singled home Blaze O'Saben who reached on a double. Then Ryan Brown came up and smashed his second two-run home run of the day to extend the lead to 3-0 after one.
The Bearcats would come all the way back to tie it in the third and ultimately take the lead in the next inning, 5-3. UMBC would answer back with a run in their half of the fourth on a Jack Finn RBI double.
Binghamton got that run back in the sixth before Raven Beeman (Somerset, Pa.) made it a one run game with a lead off home run to center to cut the deficit to 6-5. However, the Bearcats would score in the seventh to make it 7-5 winning by that score.
Beeman and Finn led the way with two hits each.
UMBC and Binghamton will conclude their series tomorrow with a 3 p.m. start time.
