Baltimore, Md.-- UMBC baseball returns to Alumni Field this weekend for a crucial America East series with first-place Stony Brook on Saturday and Sunday. The Retrievers are just a game out of the final playoff spot behind UMass Lowell with two conference weekends left after the series with the Seawolves. Last time out, the Retrievers dropped a back-and-forth affair with Towson, 8-7 on Tuesday to fall to 19-19, 5-10 AE.

Scouting the Retrievers:
-The Retrievers will head into the weekend set at 19-19, 5-10 AE coming off an 8-7 loss to Towson on Tuesday. The Retrievers hit three home runs in the contest including a go-ahead solo home run from Raven Beeman (Somerset, Pa.), a two-run eighth put the Tigers in front for good in the loss.
-Terrence Pinkston (La Plata, Md./McDonough/Norfolk State) and Christian Torres (Miami, Fla.) continue to lead the Retrievers at the plate, batting .333 and .317 respectively. Pinkston leads the Retrievers with 38 runs scored, 13 doubles, five home runs and 20 stolen bases. He needs just nine steals to tie the single season record set by Anthony Gatto and Kevin Lachance in 2015. Torres has driven in a team best 35 RBI this year.
-On the mound, Stephen Schoch (Laurel, Md./Good Counsel/Appalachian State) leads the pitching staff with a 3.48 ERA in 33.2 innings of work with a team best 47 strikeouts and a 4-2 record. Cooper Adams (Potomac, Md./St. John's College) leads the rotation with a 4.21 ERA in five starts and 10 appearances.
Scouting the Seawolves:
-Stony Brook heads to Baltimore at 22-14 on the year, leading the America East at 11-4 on the year in conference. Most recently, the Seawolves dropped their two midweek contests at St. John's (6-3) and at home against Fairfield (9-1). The Seawolves have won all but one conference series with two sweeps and are 12-3 at home but just 10-11 on the road.
-Stony Brook has four batters hitting over .300 led by Michael Wilson and Nick Grande. Wilson is hitting .389 with 42 hits and a team best 36 RBI. Grande leads the team with 54 hits, 45 runs scored and 17 stolen bases.
-On the mound, Bret Clarke and Greg Marino lead a pitching staff with a 5.39 team ERA. Clarke is 6-0 in seven starts with a 3.02 ERA. Marino leads the staff with nine starts, 52.0 innings pitched, striking out 53 batters.
-The two teams have met 71 times prior to this weekend, including three times in early March with Stony Brook leading the series 56-15. The Seawolves have won 20 of the last 26 meetings dating back to 2013, including a 3-0 sweep earlier this year.
-UMBC is on pace to reset all records in the stolen bases categories this year, records that were last broken during the team's historic 2015 season. This year the Retrievers have stolen 80 bases which ranks second in program history, just behind the 2015 team who stole 113 bags. They have attempted 94 steals, just 19 behind second place at 113 back in 2016.
-Terrence Pinkston has stolen 20 bases, just nine behind first place in a single season set by Anthony Gatto and Kevin Lachance in 2015.
-The Retrievers will hit the road to close out the month of April against La Salle on Tuesday, April 30 before hosting Georgetown on Wednesday, May 1 to open the final month of play.
