Baltimore, Md.-- UMBC baseball looks to continue their strong play in recent weeks when they travel to cross-county rival Towson on Tuesday for the second meeting between the two in a week. Last time out, the Retrievers took the series finale against Hartford, 8-2 to win the series, their first America East series win this season to move to 19-18, 5-10 AE just a game out of the final playoff spot.

Scouting the Retrievers:

-UMBC comes into the midweek matchup at 19-18 on the year after taking two of three from defending champion Hartford this weekend. The Retrievers won a back and forth game one 10-8 before falling in game two, 7-4. In the series finale, AJ Wright (Cherry Hill, N.J.) finished a single shy of the cycle in an 8-2 win.

-Terrence Pinkston (La Plata, Md./McDonough/Norfolk State) and Christian Torres (Miami, Fla.) lead the Retrievers at the plate batting .328 and .319, each with 43 hits. Pinkston leads the team with 36 runs scored, 13 doubles and 20 stolen bases. Torres has driven in a team best 35 runs with three triples. Wright leads the team with five home runs this year.

-UMBC will throw Tanner Esposito (Williamsport, Pa.) on Tuesday. Esposito is 2-0 on the year with a 5.57 ERA in nine appearances and six starts. He has thrown 21.0 innings with 13 strikeouts to just seven walks. Stephen Schoch (Laurel, Md./Good Counsel/Appalachian State) leads the bullpen with a 3.48 ERA in 12 appearances, a 4-2 record with two saves. He has struck out a team best 47 batters this year.

Scouting the Tigers:

-The Tigers come into the contest at 10-29 on the year, most recently taking two of three from CAA foe Delaware this weekend. Towson won the first two games on Saturday before falling on Easter Sunday 10-3 in the finale. The Tigers have a 6-11 record at home this year, compared to 4-18 on the road.

-Javon Fields leads the Tigers in nearly all statistical categories at the plate. Fields is batting .291 in 38 games with 43 hits, 25 runs scored, nine doubles, four triples and 13 stolen bases. Zach Piazza has driven in a team best 25 runs for Towson.

-Dallas Repine will once again get the start against the Retrievers. He has an 8.44 ERA with a 1-4 record, holding UMBC without a hit into the eighth inning the last time the two squared off. He has thrown 26.2 innings with 19 strikeouts, giving up 25 earned runs.

All-Time Series:

-UMBC and Towson will be meeting for the second time this season and 95th time all-time with the Tigers holding a 50-42-1 series lead. Earlier this year, the Tigers took a 7-2 decision holding the Retrievers without a hit into the eighth inning. UMBC is 7-3 in the last ten meetings.

Swiper Keep Swiping:

-UMBC is on pace to reset all records in the stolen bases categories this year, records that were last broken during the team's historic 2015 season. This year the Retrievers have stolen 79 bases which ranks second in program history, just behind the 2015 team who stole 113 bags. They have attempted 93 steals, just ten behind second place at 113 back in 2016.

-Terrence Pinkston has stolen 20 bases, just nine behind first place in a single season set by Anthony Gatto and Kevin Lachance in 2015.

On Deck:

-The Retrievers will return to Alumni Field this Saturday and Sunday for a three-game America East set against first-place Stony Brook. The two will play a double header on Saturday with the series finale on Sunday, both days at noon.
