UMBC Baseball Travels to UAlbany for Pivotal America East Series

Baltimore, Md.-- UMBC baseball will head to the Capital Region for a weekend set with UAlbany on Saturday and Sunday, as the Retrievers look to improve upon their 15-14, 2-7 AE record after taking down Delaware, 7-4 on Wednesday night. UMBC used a two-run first inning to take control, with Stephen Schoch (Laurel, Md./Good Counsel/Appalachian State) picking up his second save of the year and 12th overall to set the career saves record.

Scouting the Retrievers:

-UMBC comes into the weekend at 15-14, 2-7 AE on the year, going 1-1 in midweek action this week. The Retrievers fell 11-6 to George Washington on Tuesday in Baltimore before taking down Delaware 7-4 on Wednesday in Newark. Stephen Schoch recorded his second save of the year and 12th in his career to set the career saves record.

-Christian Torres (Miami, Fla.) and Terrence Pinkston (La Plata, Md./McDonough/Norfolk State) lead the Retrievers at the dish batting .381 and .359 respectively. Torres is the team leader in hits (40), triples (3), RBI (32) and slugging (.610). Pinkston leads the Retrievers with four home runs and 28 runs scored with ten doubles and 37 hits.

-Cooper Adams (Potomac, Md./St. John's College) leads the rotation with a 4.62 ERA in eight appearances with three starts. Stephen Schoch leads the Retriever bullpen with a 4.62 ERA in eight appearances striking out a team best 33 batters in 25.1 innings. Nick Trabacchi (Smithtown, N.Y.) leads the team with 35.2 innings of work with one complete game.

Scouting the Great Danes:

-UAlbany comes into the weekend set at 12-15, 4-5 AE having lost to St. John's, 5-4 in their only midweek tilt. The Great Danes have played just three games at home this year, going 1-2 in those contests against Binghamton in late March.

-Nick Condo leads the team in almost every offensive category in 2019. Condo is hitting .327 with 33 hits and 22 runs scored with five doubles, two home runs and 12 RBI. He has also stolen a team best 11 bases this year. Josh Loeffler is the only other Great Dane batting over .300 at .309.

-UAlbany will trot out Dominic Savino, Ray Weber and Connor Morrisroe this weekend. Savino is the leader of the trio, sporting a 3.26 ERA in six starts with an 0-2 record in 30.1 innings. He has struck out 18 batters, giving up 11 earned runs. Weber is 3-2 with a 6.16 ERA in seven appearances and two starts, while Morrisroe is 0-2 with a 6.60 ERA in four starts.

All-Time Series:

-The Retrievers and Great Danes have squared off 60 times prior to this weekend with UAlbany holding 36-24 lead in the all-time series. Last year, the two split the two regular season games they played in Baltimore, with the Great Danes getting the better of the Retrievers in the America East Tournament.

-The last time the two played in the Capital Region, UMBC won the series 2-1 taking game one (15-8) and game two (5-2) before falling in the finale 10-2 during their 2017 championship season.

On Deck:

-UMBC will return home to kick off a five-game home stand as part of the Retrievers playing eight of their final ten games in April at home. The home stand starts on Tuesday, April 16 against Towson at 6 p.m. before UMBC hosts Eastern Shore at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17.
