Scouting the Retrievers:

-The Retrievers are in the midst of an eighth game winning streak that dates back to March 24, the longest in program history since the 2015 team rattled off 13 straight late in the year. Since that time, UMBC is averaging just under ten runs a game while only giving up five per contest. The Retrievers capped a perfect 6-0 week on the road with a comeback win against Mount St. Mary's before taking down Navy on Wednesday 9-3.

-Terrence Pinkston (La Plata, Md./McDonough/Norfolk State) and Christian Torres (Miami, Fla.) are leading the team with a .391 and .370 batting average. Both have a team best 34 hits with Pinkston leading the squad with 26 runs scored, ten doubles and four home runs. Torres has nine doubles, three triples, and three home runs with 26 RBI.

-On the mound, Bryan Gilliam (Mechanicsville, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) leads the pitching staff with a 3.86 ERA. Stephen Schoch (Laurel, Md./Good Counsel/Appalachian State) has struck out 25 batters in 21.1 innings and is just one save away from setting the career saves mark set by Denis Mikush in 2016.

Scouting the Black Bears:

-The Black Bears come into the matchup on a four-game losing streak after being swept by Stony Brook last weekend and taking one of two from Binghamton the weekend before to sit at 2-21, 1-4 AE on the year. The series with the Retrievers will be the first home games for Maine this year.

-Hernen Sardinas leads the Black Bears at the plate, batting .270 and playing in all but one game this year. He has 24 hits with five doubles and two home runs with nine RBI to lead the team. Colin Ridley and Joe Bramanti are just behind him at .246 and .237 respectively.

-Trevor DeLaite leads the pitching staff with a 3.12 ERA in nine appearances. Cody Laweryson, Justin Courtney and Nick Silva are the probable starters against the Retrievers, who are a combined 1-8 on the year with Laweryson sporting a 3.48 ERA and team best 25 strikeouts.

All-Time Series:

-The Black Bears and Retrievers have met 57 times prior to this weekend with Maine leading the series 42-15. Last year the Retrievers swept a three-game series in Baltimore but were eliminated from the America East Tournament with a 9-4 loss to the Black Bears.

Top of the Lineup Has P.O.P.:

-The top of the order for the Retrievers has been a key reason for the team's current eight game win streak. Terrence Pinkston, Blaze O'Saben (Warrenton, Va.) and Christian "Papi" Torres are not only the top three in the batting order, but are also the top three hitters on the Retrievers this year. Pinkston and Torres are both batting just under .400 at .391 and .370 respectively with O'Saben sporting a .292 average.

-The trio has combined for 22 doubles, four triples and eight home runs, scoring 67 runs and driving in 58 runs.

On Deck:

-UMBC will return to Baltimore for a pair of midweek contests against George Washington and Delaware. The Retrievers host the Colonials on Tuesday, April 9 at 6 p.m. before traveling to Delaware on Wednesday, April 10 at 7 p.m.
