Scouting the Retrievers:
-UMBC comes into the weekend having won their last three games, most recently dispatching Coppin State, 16-2 on Wednesday afternoon. The Retrievers fell behind 1-0, but scored five in the fifth, five in the seventh and six in the eighth to take a commanding lead and move to 8-11 on the year.
-Junior Christian Torres (Miami, Fla.) drove in four runs on Wednesday, and now leads the team with 19 RBI on the year. The Miami native also leads the team with a .362 average, 25 hits, three triples in 69 at bats. Terrence Pinkston (La Plata, Md./McDonough/Norfolk State) is also over .300 batting at .353, leading the team with 19 runs scored and seven doubles.
-On the hill, Stephen Schoch (Laurel, Md./Good Counsel/Appalachian State) leads the pitching staff with 22 strike outs and 5.50 ERA in five appearances with two starts. Nick Trabacchi (Smithtown, N.Y.) has thrown the most innings with 21.2 innings of work with a 1-2 record in five starts.
Scouting the Mountaineers:
-Mount St. Mary's is coming off a double header split against Eastern Shore on Wednesday, dropping game one 7-6 before winning the nightcap 16-5. The Mountaineers are just 2-2 at home this year, having played 14 neutral site games in 2019.
-The Mount has a pair of players batting over. 400 on the year, led by Ryan Fisher with a .417 average. Myles Nicholson is right behind him with a .403 average with a team best 29 hits in 72 at bats with 23 runs scored. Patrick Causa provides the power with five home runs and 19 RBI this year.
-Noah Smith leads the pitching staff with a 0.45 ERA in seven appearances and 20.0 innings pitched. Trey McGough has struck out a team best 27 batters in 28.0 innings of work with a 3-1 record in five starts.
