Baltimore, Md.-- UMBC baseball will start a five-game road swing this week against George Washington and Coppin State in midweek action. The Retrievers are coming off a 2-2 week that saw a midweek win against George Mason (9-3) and going 1-2 against UMass Lowell this past weekend, sitting at 6-11, 1-5 AE on the year.

Scouting the Retrievers:

-UMBC comes into the midweek at 6-11 on the year after a 2-2 week with a pair of losses to UMass Lowell and wins against the River Hawks and George Mason. UMBC picked up a quick 9-3 win against the Patriots last Wednesday and ended the series with UMass Lowell with an 8-5 win.

-Junior Christian Torres (Miami, Fla.) leads the team at the plate, batting .310, one of two Retrievers over the .300 mark. He has a team best 18 hits with three triples and 13 RBI. Terrence Pinkston (La Plata, Md./McDonough/Norfolk State) is the other Retriever over. 300 batting at .310. He has also collected 18 hits with a team high 15 runs scored, six doubles and 10 stolen bases.

-On the hill, Reid Celata (Virginia Beach, Va.) leads the pitching staff with a 4.91 ERA in 11.0 innings of work. Stephen Schoch (Laurel, Md./Good Counsel/Appalachian State) has stuck out 22 batters in 18.0 inning with a 5.50 ERA.

Scouting the Colonials:

-The Colonials are 14-9 on the year, and 1-2 in A10 play most recently dropping two of three against Rhode Island this past weekend. GW lost the first game before picking up a 4-3 win in game two, ultimately falling in the rubber game 6-1 on Sunday.

-GW has a pair of players hitting over. 400, led by Nate Fassnacht at .407. He is the team leader in hits (37), runs scored (31), doubles (15), and home runs (2). Dom D'Alessandro is batting .404 with 36 hits and 23 RBI.

-Jaret Edwards leads the rotation with a 4-1 record and a 5.06 ERA in a team best 32.0 innings of work with 21 strikeouts. Keagan McGinnis has a team best four saves and a 2.93 ERA in 11 appearances.

Scouting the Eagles:

-Coppin State heads into the Wednesday showdown at 11-8, 5-1 MEAC on the year, and will face Mount St. Mary's on Tuesday afternoon in Emmitsburg before taking on UMBC. Most recently, the Eagles took two of three from MEAC foe Delaware State. After losing game one 5-1 on Friday, Coppin State came back with 12-11 and 10-5 wins on Saturday and Sunday.

-Justin Banks leads the Eagles in just about every statistical category. He is batting .407 with 24 hits, 14 runs scored, five home runs and 23 runs batted in. Carlos Alviarez, Marcos Castillo, and Corey Treyes are all hitting over. 300 at .344, .343 and .338 respectively.

-Anthony Martinez leads the pitching staff having not given up an earned run in 11.1 innings in eight appearances. Branden Redfern has a 1.66 ERA and a 2-1 record in nine appearances with 26 strikeouts.

All-Time Series:

-The Colonials and Retrievers will be meeting for the 54th time in the all-time series with the Colonials leading the series 34-19. The two split their season series last year with each team winning at home. Overall, the Retrievers are 8-14 on the road since 1994.

-UMBC and Coppin State have met 50 times prior to Wednesday's matchup with the Retrievers holding a commanding 47-3 lead in the series. Last year, the two split the season series with each winning at home. Two of the three Coppin State wins have come in the last three games, with UMBC winning 10 straight from 2012-16.

On Deck:

-UMBC will continue their road swing with a weekend series at Mount St. Mary's. The Mountaineers and Retrievers will play one game on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Friday will start at 3 p.m. with Saturday and Sunday starting at 3:30 p.m. and 1 p.m.
