Scouting the Retrievers:
-The Retrievers are coming off a three-game sweep at the hands of Stony Brook this past weekend and are 4-9, 0-3 AE on the year. The game with George Mason will be the first for the Retrievers at Alumni Field this year, having their only other home games on the schedule being played at Blandair Park in Columbia earlier this month.
-Christian Torres (Miami, Fla.) is the team leader at the plate as the only Retrievers batting over .300 on the year. Torres is hitting .333 with a team best 15 hits, 11 runs scored, three triples and 11 RBI. Terrence Pinkston (La Plata, Md./McDonough/Norfolk State) is just below the .300 mark at .298 with 14 hits and six RBI and a team leading seven steals.
-On the mound, Reid Celata (Virginia Beach, Va.) will get the start for the Retrievers, sporting a team best 4.50 ERA in four games this year. He has thrown just six innings with three strikeouts. Nick Trabacchi (Smithtown, N.Y.) leads the team with 17.1 innings of work, with Stephen Schoch (Laurel, Md./Good Counsel/Appalachian State) leading the team with 16 strikeouts.
Scouting the Patriots:
-George Mason comes into the midweek matchup at 9-8 on the year, going 6-4 at home and just 1-4 on the road this year. The Patriots will host Georgetown on Tuesday before making the trip up to Baltimore on Wednesday. George Mason is coming off a 1-2 weekend at Monmouth that saw the Patriots win the opener 10-7 before falling in the final two games 9-3 and 7-3.
-Logan Driscoll and Cam Reckling are leading the team at the plate, batting .323 and .305 respectively. Driscoll leads the team with 21 hits in 65 at bats, scoring 15 times with 12 RBI. He has a team best four doubles and four home runs.
-Patrick Halligan will get the start for the Patriots. Halligan is 1-1 in three starts with a 9.58 ERA in 10.1 innings of work. James Beasley has a team best 1.17 ERA in 15.1 innings with Jared DiCesare leading the team with 19 strikeouts.
-The Patriots and Retrievers will be meeting for the 61st time in the all-time series with George Mason leading the series 44-16. The Patriots won the first 12 meetings, however, UMBC has won three of the last four dating back to 2013.
-Last year, the Patriots knocked off the Retrievers, 11-4 in Fairfax in late March.
-UMBC will continue their home stand against UMass Lowell this weekend. The River Hawks and Retrievers will play two on Saturday, March 23 before closing out the series with a single game on Sunday, both days starting at noon.
