Baltimore, Md.-- UMBC baseball returns to action after a week off to open America East play against Stony Brook on Saturday and Sunday. The Retrievers had their lone midweek contest cancelled against Mount St. Mary's on Tuesday due to field conditions. UMBC last played on March 9-10 against Delaware State, winning two of three games to move to 4-6 on the year.

Scouting the Retrievers:

-The Retrievers come into the contest at 4-6 on the year, most recently taking two of three from Delaware State last weekend at Blandair Park. The Retriever bats came alive in game one, pushing ten runs across in a 10-5 game one win before winning a tough 3-2 game two. The Hornets would jump out to an early 4-0 lead in the finale, taking game three 6-5.

-For his efforts against the Hornets, freshman Blaze O'Saben (Warrenton, Va.) was named America East Rookie of the Week on Tuesday. O'Saben hit .308 with three RBI, including one triple. Junior Christian Torres (Miami, Fla.) leads the team offensively, batting .353 with 12 hits and nine runs scored to go along with a team best 10 RBI. The junior has smacked three triples and is slugging .647.

-Reid Celata (Virginia Beach, Va.) and Stephen Schoch (Laurel, Md./Good Counsel/Appalachian State) lead the Retriever bullpen with a 2.45 and 3.72 ERA respectively. Schoch has struck out a team best 14 batters in 9.2 innings. Nick Trabacchi (Smithtown, N.Y.) leads the rotation with three starts and 5.11 ERA in 12.1 innings of work.

Scouting the Seawolves:

-Stony Brook comes into the weekend series at 4-7, having most recently defeated LIU Brooklyn on Wednesday afternoon. The Seawolves used a big first inning to take control of the game in a 9-3 win against the Blackbirds. Stony Brook has played just two games so far at Joe Nathan Field, going 1-1 with a win against LIU Brooklyn and a loss to Iona.

-The Seawolves have a trio of batters hitting over .300 on the year, led by Michael Wilson. Wilson leads the team with a .417 average, including a team best 15 hits, four home runs and 11 RBI. Nick Grande and Brandon Alamo are also over .300 at .333 and .308 respectively. Grande has 14 hits with five doubles and one home run, with Alamo chipping in 12 hits and five doubles.

-Greg Marino and Brian Herrmann lead the Stony Brook rotation with three starts each and both picking up a win. Herrmann leads the team with 13 strikeouts in 14.2 innings. Marino sports a 5.74 ERA with 12 strikeouts in 15.2 innings of work.

All-Time Series:

-The two teams have met 68 times prior to this weekend with the Seawolves holding a commanding 53-15 lead in the all-time series having met all but two times in America East play. Last year, the Retrievers took two of three games up on Long Island in late April.

-Before last year, Stony Brook had won 17 of the last 23 meetings dating back to the 2013 season with two of the six Retriever wins coming during their 2017 championship season.

On Deck:

-The Retrievers will return to Baltimore to face George Mason on Wednesday, March 20 before hosting UMass Lowell in conference action next weekend.
