    UMBC baseball rallied to within three runs after being down by as many as seven, but could not complete the comeback in an 8-5 loss to Stony Brook on Sunday. UMBC had two on in the ninth but left them stranded in the loss.

The Retrievers had their lone midweek contest cancelled against Mount St. Mary’s on Tuesday due to field conditions. UMBC last played on March 9-10 against Delaware State, winning two of three games to move to 4-6 on the year.

    UMBC baseball freshman Blaze O’Saben (Warrington, Va.) has been named America East Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon. O’Saben helped the Retrievers to a 2-2 week including a series win against Delaware State this past weekend.

    UMBC baseball vs. Mount St. Mary's, scheduled for Tuesday, March 12 at 6 p.m. has been cancelled due to field conditions. No make up date has been announced at this time. The Retrievers will travel to Stony Brook for a three-game America East series to open conference play this Saturday and Sunday. All three games can be seen on the America East Digital Network.

    UMBC baseball played from behind the whole afternoon, working their way back to a tie late before Delaware State struck the final blow late in the game to take a 6-5 decision on Sunday. AJ Wright (Cherry Hill, N.J.) led the way with a pair of hits in the contest.

    UMBC baseball completed a two-game sweep of Delaware State on Saturday afternoon with 10-5 and 3-2 wins at Blandair Park. The Retrievers used ten hits in game one, including two triples from Christian Torres (Miami, Fla.) to pull ahead and got a big RBI ground out from Joey Goodwin (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) in the sixth to win game two.

    UMBC baseball got out to a good start against the Midshipmen, scoring a pair of runs in the first inning, but Navy put up nine unanswered runs to take the lead in a 13-4 win on Thursday. Terrence Pinkston (La Plata, Md./McDonough/Norfolk State) and Raven Beeman (Somerset, Pa.) each had two hits to lead the Retrievers.

The Retrievers are coming off a weekend series at Miami that saw the Retrievers hang tough with the Canes, but ultimately falling in all three games to fall to 2-4 on the year.

    UMBC baseball dropped a 20-1 decision in the series finale to Miami on Sunday afternoon. Blaze O’Saben (Warrenton, Va.) had the lone hit and run scored in the contest in the first inning. Miami hit five home runs in the game to help propel them to victory.

Senior AJ Wright (Cherry Hill, N.J.) led the way with two hits, driving in one of the two runs. Freshman Blaze O’Saben (Warrenton, Va.) hit his first career home run in the loss.

    UMBC baseball junior Christian Torres (Miami, Fla.) and freshman Ethan Wentzlaff (Damascus, Md./Damascus) were named America East Player and Rookie of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday. Torres and Wentzlaff helped the Retrievers to a series win against UNC Asheville this past weekend to open the season, with both guys batting over .400 in the three game set.

    UMBC baseball got a strong start from Nick Trabacchi (Smithtown, N.Y.) and a big day at the plate from Christian Torres (Miami, Fla.) in their convincing 12-0 win against the Bulldogs on Sunday morning. Torres finished just a double shy of the cycle with Trabacchi tossing six shutout innings with four strikeouts. UMBC belted 17 hits with eight extra base hits and two home runs in the win.

    UMBC baseball dropped a wild 17-14 decision to UNC Asheville in rainy conditions on Saturday. The Bulldogs were up by as much as 17-7 before the Retrievers tried to mount a comeback, falling just short.

UMBC scored all three runs in the first two innings and held on late, thanks to six strikeouts by Stephen Schoch (Laurel, Md./Good Counsel/Appalachian State) for the save.

    UMBC baseball head coach Bob Mumma announced the 2019 schedule on Monday, which features 23 home games and 52 games overall. The Retrievers are coming off a 22-29 campaign a year ago, to go along with a third-place finish (12-11) in the America East Conference. The Retrievers have had recent success in the league, getting to the championship in two out of the past four years, including a conference crown in 2017.
